RNIB Cymru

Roaming Tech Volunteers are needed to provide one-to-one support to people with sight loss, visiting them in their own homes to help them get the most out of technology. They may help customers set up a new device, learn new features or trouble shoot tech problems. Roaming tech volunteers support people local to them. You will need to have Good communication skills; Customer focused approach; Natural tech user; Problem solving skills; And an empowering attitude.

Snap Cymru

Project support -Offering practical support to staff e.g. administration, support, distributing information and fundraising.

Independent parental support -Providing specific information, advice and support to the child and family.

School and community link volunteers - Provide schools and communities with general information on SNAP Cymru and other services.

St John Ambulance Cymru - Ystradgynlais Division

Youth Leader – Volunteering with Children and Young People Team to help deliver and teach lifesaving skills amongst other useful and fun subjects to children and young people. Full training will be provided including first aid.

Operational Volunteer (First Aider and Ambulance Crew) – To provide first aid and ambulance support at public events and to support key healthcare partners in times of need for example NHS support. Minimum 60 hours per year. First aid training will be provided, Health and Safety, Moving and Handling and Ambulance Crew Training.

Swansea Prison (Pact Cymru)

Play worker to assist in the provision of play opportunities for children who are visiting someone held in HMP Swansea.

Prisoners' family befriender/mentor. This role is based in either Swansea or Cardiff prison, but may also involve work in the community in other parts of Wales to assist ex-offenders with the challenges of resettlement.

The British Legion

A Poppy Appeal Collector is needed in and around the Ystradgynlais and Ystalyfera area.

Volunteers help to raise vital funds for the Royal British Legion, by collecting donations from the public at high footfall locations and events during the Poppy Appeal during October and November.

The British Red Cross Shop in Ystradgynlais

Support at Home Volunteer is needed in Ystradgynlais, 2-3 hours per week - Monday – Friday. The aim of the Support at Home service is to place the person at the centre of what we do and help them get through a crisis by offering positive encouragement, practical help and emotional support, for a few days or for longer, depending on their needs.

The British Red Cross shop in Ystradgynlais requires volunteers. Typical volunteering tasks include: Serving customers, sorting donated items and creating eye-catching displays.

The HOPE Project

The HOPE Project (Helping Others Participate and Engage) supports older people (50+) to engage, participate, gain information, have their voices heard, understand their rights, make choices, be involved, share experiences, raise awareness of advocacy, and develop skills and knowledge.

HOPE will deliver advocacy support at a community level through a range of advocacy models by recruiting and then fully training and supporting project volunteers. Volunteers will be given 5-6 hours of training and be asked to attend Volunteer Support Group Meetings. Volunteers will be required to phone organisations and councillors on behalf of the client. You will also be required to send emails. Travel, out of pocket expenses & phone calls will be reimbursed.

The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales (Brecknock Wildlife Trust)

To help develop the Upper Tawe Valley Living Landscape project.

Volunteers are required to help in Ystrad Fawr, Ystradgynlais to help with the Ground Maintenance. Work includes maintenance of steps, handrails, footbridges etc. as well as putting up bat/boxes; coppicing, bramble control and species counts. 

Theatr na nog

Ambassador Volunteers are needed to help out at Dylan Thomas Theatre, Swansea Museum and the Waterfront Museum in Swansea. Volunteers will be required to dress up as a Victorian Explorers and guiding school children between the theatre and the museum. One training day in Neath, overview of the show and volunteer roles. Training July- August 2019, 1st show will be on 5th September.

Tiddlywinks

A Childcare Worker Volunteer is needed to help with additional relief for childcare workers to cover increased demand. Hours vary from week to week.  The role is based around encouraging and supporting the highest levels of childcare for children aged 6 weeks to 14 years of age, ensuring each child is treated as an individual and that their development needs are met on an ongoing basis. To offer diverse, safe stimulating and creative play and learning environment fostering positive language and role models that promotes and upholds Tiddlywink's equal opportunity policies. A DBS check will be undertaken.

Wales Air Ambulance

Fundraising Volunteer. You will be required to have good communication skills, be well presented and want to get involved in the community.

Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to find out what goes on behind the scenes at the Sanctuary? Well here's your chance! Learn about life at the sanctuary and the animals that you will meet from the people that really know – Our keepers.

Get stuck into food preparation, feeding and even mucking out! Best of all spend time with some of the world's most exotic animals.

Western Beacons Mountain Rescue

Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team has begun its first recruitment of 2020. You will be invited to attend an on hill assessment called 'initial hill day', this will just be for a couple of hours one evening so you can get a rough idea of what they do and you get a chance to meet some team members , this can be arranged any weekday evening when we have enough candidates.

Operational Support Members are also needed. If you have any control room experience, or would like to gain operational control experience, a course will be running for volunteers who don’t necessarily wish to deploy on the mountain but would like to contribute to the operational capability of the team. This will be very rewarding especially for those with previous experience; however, training will be given with those with none.

Wonderful Welshies Events-Ystradgynlais Summer Fun

Fundraiser Family Event on Saturday 13th July .

Volunteers are needed to help on the day with the following:

  • Manning the carpark
  • Manning the field
  • Helping to direct people
  • Wearing hi-vis
  • Helping to clear up

 

Must be 18 or over

WRVS and Powys Teaching Health Board

The project is to help and support people at lunch times in a small hospital dining room providing support with eating and drinking in a happy warm environment. You may also provide activities to alleviate loneliness or shopping assistance.

Ystalyfera Development Trust

A Cook is required to cook breakfasts, snacks and beverages. You will be serving customers, cleaning the kitchen and dealing with relevant paperwork. Some experience is preferable but not essential.  Food Hygiene Certificate training provided.

 Driver - Assistance is needed in the smooth running of the community minibus and car scheme mainly in the Ystalyfera and Ystradgynlais area. The scheme takes its members to medical appointments at a much cheaper rate than a taxi.  Drivers must be over 18.

Volunteers are needed to help out in the Trysor Charity Shop. Serving customers, dealing with stock, displays and any other duties. Some experience is desirable but not essential.  Possible Customer Service Qualification may be available in the future.

A Volunteer Trustee is required to be on the Board of Trustees, making decisions regarding the Trust and Trysor. You will need to be available for monthly meetings plus any special meetings. Trustee training is provided through CVS.

Ystalyfera Foodbank

Formal Volunteer - Formal Volunteers are required to contribute and support the delivery of the foodbank including administration, face to face contact with service users, and dealing with external agencies.

Foodbank Volunteer Assistant - Volunteers are required to contribute and support the delivery of any aspects of the foodbank service under the direction and guidance of a formal volunteer.

Time Required:  4 hours per week on a Wed or Fri between 10.30-2.30pm, or any time you can offer would be gratefully received.

Ystrad Recycling

Van Driver's Assistant. To assist van driver with pickup and delivery of furniture, tools and timber; to assist with the assembly of flat packed items as required; help with other duties as required.

Sales Assistants are required at Ystrad Recycling to help out with morning sales Saturday's from 10am-1pm to assist with showroom cover, sales, keep receipts and donation detail.

Furniture Upcycler. Do you love to upcycle? Ystrad Recycling are looking for volunteers to upcycle and transform items of furniture that would benefit from some TLC to create a unique piece of furniture. This will include cleaning, painting and making small repairs if required.

Volunteer Gardener. Are you interested or have experience in gardening? We have our own Community Garden at Ystradgynlais Volunteer Centre and are looking for some volunteers to come and help us. We have lots of vegetables and herbs. You can work at your own pace and learn new skills depending on your interest. No experience required.

A PAT tester is required to test all electrical items that have been donated to Ystrad Recycling for re-sale.

Ti a Fi Café. You will be required to take orders and serve customers including preparing hot drinks. General tidying of the cafe, clear up and washing up.

YVC Shed. A safe place where people of all ages can come together to work on projects such as repairing and upcycling furniture and repairing and maintenance of electrical items. All inclusive.

Ystradgynlais Community Garden are looking for Trustees

Ystradgynlais Community Gardens, is looking for up to 3 Trustees to join our small committee, helping to develop and ultimately, manage the exciting, new Ystradgynlais Community Hospital Garden Project.

The Garden had been left unattended since 2019, until recently and had become totally overgrown, but we are in the process of acquiring funding to completely recreate an accessible and safe space where members of the wider and hospital community can enjoy the benefits of gardeningand the outdoors. We hope to open the Organisation to full membership, in Spring 2024. We have a starting plan in place and our Constitution clearly states our aims and objectives.

At this point, we are not specifically looking for gardeners, as such, although an interest in that and in this local community, would be useful. We need people who have an interest and/or experience of community project development, team working and the willingness to share their own ideas and listen to those of others.

 

Ystradgynlais Disability Sports Club

Volunteers play an active role in library services across the county. Volunteering is a great way to support your local library and get involved in your community. Volunteering also has many benefits in terms of maintaining your health and well-being, building confidence and skills and supporting services where you live.

A Library Assistant Volunteer is needed to offer a friendly welcome to all members of the community using the library.

  • Assist customers to locate books, talking books and DVDs.
  • Assist customers with using the self service equipment
  • Shelve stock and keep the library in a safe, tidy and attractive condition
  • Refer customers who need further information or support to library staff
  • Assist staff with book maintenance e.g. book jacketing
  • Assist staff with locating items required at other libraries
  • Help customers log on to the public access computers
  • Liaise with library staff as appropriate

Ystradgynlais Market

Ystradgynlais Market are looking for volunteer stewards to help the markets run smoothly and efficiently. The markets are held at Ystradgynlais Rugby Club every Sunday from 10am until 4pm. Duties will include directing stall holders and customers, helping with set up and take down and manning the Track and Trace/Raffle table.

Whether it’s buying groceries, fetching medicine, doing small repairs, showing someone how to use a computer or tablet or assisting the elderly, your contribution matters.

We’re looking for people in the Ystradgynlais area. There’s no commitment.

Ystradgynlais Volunteer Centre

Trustees are needed to help ensure the organisation complies with legal and regulatory requirements and ensuring that the organisation is run within the objects, powers and procedures set out in its governing document. Trustees are expected to exercise their duty of care by pursuing sound business practices in running the organisation and to act prudently by ensuring the organisation’s continuing solvency by making best use of its assets and managing risks. Trustees come from all walks of life and bring a diverse range of skills and experience to the table.

Volunteer Warehouse/Show Room Assistant needed at Ystrad Recycling to assist with stock rotation; prepare donated furniture for customers as saleable items; to assist with the assembly of flat packed items as required; keep work area clean and safe for purpose; also to help with other duties as required. You must be able to lift and carry items, some cleaning and polishing may be required.

Ebay Assistant.  An EBay assistant is required to list items for sale on our eBay shop.

  • Photographing and listing items for sale.  Answering questions from bidders/shoppers
  • Packing and labelling sold items for dispatch and delivery to the buyer.

Welsh Translator. We are looking for a volunteer to translate our Facebook and Twitter posts etc, into Welsh. 

Ystradgynlais Welfare Hall

Are looking for new members to help out at coffee mornings every Friday and/or to act as ushers for events.
