1st Swansea Valley Oak Scout Group

Volunteers are required to help out with the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, the role includes running games and activities as part of weekly section meetings and other section events. To assisting young people to achieve badges and awards and assisting with residential experiences for the section.

They are also looking for a Team Leader who is responsible for organising the activities of the group, and training the youth members through the Scout program.

 

Accessibility Powys

Accessibility Powys provide information, support and training to disabled individuals and organisations and businesses who work with disabled individuals. Volunteers are needed to:

  • Support local people to stay independent
  • Reduce isolations and loneliness
  • Becomes someone weekly buddy
  • Provide a social connection
  • Help with digital support
  • Fundraising

Age Cymru

Age Cymru are launching a brand-new, volunteer-led, telephone listening service called Listen and Connect. This service is for older people who may be experiencing feelings of loneliness and isolation. Volunteers will provide a safe space where people are listened to and supported to explore the issues that are important to them. 

You will be offering a listening ear to callers from the comfort of your own home.

Volunteers are needed who want to make a difference and connect with older people. You must have access to a smart phone, laptop or tablet with headphones. Volunteers are required to offer a minimum of three hours a week and full training along with ongoing support will be provided by Age Cymru.

Bannau Brycheiniog National Park

Craig y Nos Country Park
Volunteers work on maintaining and improving the grounds of the 40 acre Country Park. This involves some gardening tasks, grass cutting, hedge laying and maintenance and a range of other practical activities. Volunteers also help people enjoy and understand their visit to the area. On-site and other training is provided. Working parties are usually on Mondays and/or Thursdays, 9am to 4pm and no transport is provided.

Waterfall Volunteers

Primarily based at the 4 waterfalls. Volunteer help is greatly appreciated on Saturdays, Sundays, Bank Holidays, and weekdays during the busy summer period. An online calendar will allow volunteers to sign up to days that suit them; ideally, we would like volunteers to aim to commit to a minimum of 10 days per year.

‘Adopt a Monument’ volunteers

The project aims to collect a systematic set of monitoring data for protected heritage sites within the Brecon Beacons National Park, to help build a long term database of the condition of these monuments.

Upland Conservation Volunteers

The Upland Conservation Volunteers undertake conservation and ecology work to help restore international important habitats and also carry out basic maintenance of upland Scheduled Ancient Monuments within the Black Mountains. The volunteers are currently undertaking an Upland Peat restoration project in the Black Mountains, working closely with the one million pound Sustainable Management Scheme Project recently granted to the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority.

Work days are carried out on Wednesdays for the Upland Conservation Volunteers.

Full training is provided and volunteers will gain an understanding of the work. There will be opportunities to undertake accredited certification in first aid and Lantra approved safe use of brushcutters.

This can be difficult and strenuous work, with typical full days of productive hard work often in harsh weather conditions within the Black Mountains.

Brecon and District Credit Union

Volunteers are required to help with manning the collection point and cashier duties. Volunteer Assistance is required in Ystradgynlais Library every Friday from 10 am to 12 Midday

British Heart Foundation

Charity Shop Volunteer - In-Memoriam Co-ordinators - Schools Co-ordinators - Collection Leaders - Fundraising Event  - Local Event Organisers - Walkabout Co-ordinators - Event helpers.

British Red Cross -Independent Living A&E Volunteer at Morriston Hospital, Swansea

You will be providing emotional and practical support to adult patients, their relatives and NHS staff in the A&E department and in queuing ambulances. This role involves volunteering in a fast-paced A&E department.

 

You will be:

  • Providing emotional support for patients and relatives waiting for or receiving treatment
  • Giving emotional support and pastoral care to people, including queuing ambulances
  • Helping improve patients’ experience via emotional support, practical tasks such as providing refreshments, contacting family members etc.
  • Signposting patients, relatives, and NHS staff to other services.
  • Assisting with lunch, tea rounds and other practical tasks such as assisting with hot and cold food, hot tea trolley, etc
  • Being on your feet in a fast paced environment and undertaking a variety of tasks such as going to the pharmacy, replenishing stock etc.

 

The service operates 10am-8pm Monday-Sunday, including bank holidays.

Brynamman Cinema

Volunteers are needed to greet members of the public, helping out in the shop, digital projection training if appropriate, plus a range of other duties.

Canolfan Maerdy

Upper Amman Valley Community Transport scheme is looking for volunteer drivers in order to help expand the service and ensure transport is available when requested. The transport can be used for any purpose. 

 Supermarket Surplus Free Food Distribution Scheme
Volunteers are needed to pick up from Supermarkets in the evenings.  The Food Hub redistributes free food which is provided to us as surplus stock from local Tesco, Lidl and Co-op stores.  The food is usually near to or at the end of their ‘sell by’ or ‘use by’ date (but not always) for people in the community to collect each week day.

Clydach Heritage Centre

A volunteer is needed to provide information to visitors, making and selling light refreshments, selling publications, and recording sales. An interest in local history and heritage would be useful, ability to talk to visitors and establish their needs. Welsh speaker is an advantage but certainly not essential. The centre is open for 3 hours a day on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year (12-3pm Winter, 1-4pm Summer. Occasional special events may be held in the evenings.

Community Car Scheme require Volunteer drivers and escorts

Assistance needed in the smooth running of the community minibus and car scheme mainly the Ystradgynlais area. Drivers must be over 25 and under 70 for insurance purposes.

Contact the Elderly require a driver/companion

Volunteer driver/companion. To collect one or two elderly people in your car and take them to that month's host, spend a couple of hours together with the group enjoying afternoon tea and companionship, and take them home again. Required one Sunday afternoon a month.

Crisis have various volunteering opportunities

Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. They are looking for volunteers for various roles:

Poetry Volunteer to plan an accessible and welcoming poetry workshop for members to access, initially running for 4 weeks.

Work Learning Support Volunteer to contact members who have been in a job for specific periods of time to check how they are doing in the job and whether any further support from a work and learning coach is required. 

Fundraising Group Lead to arrange meetings with other fundraising members to plan events, collections and activities.

Learning and Activity Volunteer to attend learning team meetings to contribute to planning upcoming events and activities for members.

Collection Box Coordinator to work with the Wales Fundraising Manager to ensure all supporters has a positive experience of supporting the charity, including speaking to and gaining supporters in your local area.

Cwm Du Glen & Glanrhyd Plantation Nature Reserve in Pontardawe

Volunteers are needed to help out with grounds work at the Nature Reserve in Pontardawe. Suitable clothing and footwear is needed. The group meets every second Wednesday of the month.

Cwrt Enfys Ystradgynlais require a Dementia Champion

Residents at Cwrt Enfys enjoy meeting and interacting with a range of people living in their local community. As a volunteer you will be matched with either a resident or a group in our care home spending time with residents and engage in activities that are mutually agreed. Cwrt Enfys are looking for a Dementia Champion, as a volunteer you will need to have a caring nature and be willing to do a session in the Cafe.

Gardeners are also required to help out around the grounds of Cwrt Enfys.

Cymru Versus Arthritis

Cymru Versus Arthritis are looking for a Group Leader Volunteer in Ystradgynlais to provide support to people living with arthritis and gives them a voice. A volunteer is needed to plan and organise group meetings and activities. Promoting the Group in your local area with posters, local media opportunities and with local organisations. Engaging with Group attendees and encouraging new people to get involved. Sharing updates on group activities with you coordinator. You will be required 1 day a month. Induction training will be provided.

Dementia Matters - Meeting Centre Volunteer

Dementia Friendly Communities are entirely reliant on the dedication and commitment of volunteers. The key tasks of a Meeting Centre Volunteer are to support people affected by dementia and their families throughout the facilitation of the smooth running of the Meeting Centre under the advice and guidance of the Dementia Community Development Officer. The group meets every other Tuesday from 11am until 3pm in Ystradgynlais. As a volunteer, we would ask you to attend at 10.30am, to help set the room up.

Enfys Foundation

Charity Shop Assistants - Volunteers needed to help out in their charity shops based in Swansea and Pontardawe.

Practical/Electrical - A volunteer electrician's assistant to help fix white goods and other basic repairs.

Retail/Customer Service - Helping customers in their Warehouse Showroom.

Fieldbay Ltd

Fieldbay Ltd are based in Llansamlet and provide high-quality services for people who have complex needs associated with mental illness, learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, dementia and long-term conditions such as Huntington's disease. They specialise in working with people that are regarded as too challenging for ordinary nursing and social care settings.

Vounteers are needed to help with a number of roles including:

  • Befriending, talking and listening to Service Users
  • Gardening
  • Recreational Activities such as drawing, music, games etc.
  • Helping out on different units
  • Reading
  • Helping out at different events
  • Trips out into the community with Service Users

Assisting with meal times. 

Girl Guides are looking for volunteers in Ystradgynlais

The Girl Guides in Ystradgynlais are looking for leaders, unit helpers and occasional unit helpers for the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers (Girls are age 5+) Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Must be adults, positions available for both English and Welsh speakers.

Help Inspire the women of the future. Duties include running activities, planning trips and events, helping at sessions for either of the groups.

Guide Dogs

You don’t need any experience or special skills to become a volunteer, just a friendly manner and the motivation to make a real difference to someone’s life. Roles include Boarder, Puppy Walker, Lead Volunteer Supporter, My Guide Sighted Guide, Dog Behaviour Assistant, Dog Exerciser, Fundraiser and many more. 

Hafal

Carer Group Support Volunteer is needed in Ystradgynlais Hospital.

Duties include setting up the room for the group, set out any publications, tea coffee and biscuits, welcome attendees to the group, and chat with attendees and to help close down the group at the end of the session. No experience is required. You will be required the second Wednesday of every month from 2 until 4pm. Induction will be provided IE basics on health and safety of the building and what to do in an emergency and who to contact if they cannot attend. Also any training that is made available to volunteers will be offered to the carer group volunteer.

Hafan-y-Coed Abercrave

Hafan Y Coed is a Spiritual Church with lots of grounds, also run as a B&B. Volunteers will get access to their services for free and a discount on courses. Volunteers travelling from far away have the opportunity to stay for free whilst volunteering, food and bed are provided for free.

Volunteers are required to assist with various projects in Abercrave, including Wood Coppicing, Carving Totems, and Caring for the Memorial Garden and to help at Festivals and Events. Food will be provided, free tea and coffee all day and travel expenses reimbursed.

Home Start Cymru

Home Start Cymru supports families struggling with post-natal depression, isolation, physical health problems, bereavement, financial guidance, and many other issues to receive the support of a volunteer.  They now have a telephone befriending service which can provide support remotely.  This support to families is needed now more than ever, volunteer support is crucial in supporting families to cope, develop resilience and stay positive through a very challenging time.   

You will be given training and support to be effective and make a real difference to families in your community.  You will also develop transferable skills which can support you in your life, whether that’s at home or at work.

Homeless Hope

Homeless Hope are looking for volunteers to provide food and beverages and donations of warm clothes and footwear to the homeless and vulnerable. If you have some spare time please get in touch and help this wonderful cause.  

Clinical Volunteer. Volunteers are needed to assist with giving donations on the street. You will be required the 1st Sunday of every month in Cardiff, days are pre-arranged for other clinics - support is given in a buddy system. Homeless Hope are always looking for nurses and retired nurse to perform basic foot care and to give advice and support. Mental health support, a listening ear to show our homeless they are not alone and not invisible.
