Craig y Nos Country Park
Volunteers work on maintaining and improving the grounds of the 40 acre Country Park. This involves some gardening tasks, grass cutting, hedge laying and maintenance and a range of other practical activities. Volunteers also help people enjoy and understand their visit to the area. On-site and other training is provided. Working parties are usually on Mondays and/or Thursdays, 9am to 4pm and no transport is provided.
Waterfall Volunteers
Primarily based at the 4 waterfalls. Volunteer help is greatly appreciated on Saturdays, Sundays, Bank Holidays, and weekdays during the busy summer period. An online calendar will allow volunteers to sign up to days that suit them; ideally, we would like volunteers to aim to commit to a minimum of 10 days per year.
‘Adopt a Monument’ volunteers
The project aims to collect a systematic set of monitoring data for protected heritage sites within the Brecon Beacons National Park, to help build a long term database of the condition of these monuments.
Upland Conservation Volunteers
The Upland Conservation Volunteers undertake conservation and ecology work to help restore international important habitats and also carry out basic maintenance of upland Scheduled Ancient Monuments within the Black Mountains. The volunteers are currently undertaking an Upland Peat restoration project in the Black Mountains, working closely with the one million pound Sustainable Management Scheme Project recently granted to the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority.
Work days are carried out on Wednesdays for the Upland Conservation Volunteers.
Full training is provided and volunteers will gain an understanding of the work. There will be opportunities to undertake accredited certification in first aid and Lantra approved safe use of brushcutters.
This can be difficult and strenuous work, with typical full days of productive hard work often in harsh weather conditions within the Black Mountains.
