The YVC Foodbank

What is a food bank and why do people use them?

There are thousands of food banks in the United Kingdom, each providing food to households needing it. Food banks are for people who are struggling to buy enough to eat. As well as food they typically supply other household products such as drinks, shampoos and even pet food should you need it for your cat or dog.

Food banks are generally charities who collect donations which they use to purchase the food they supply. In addition, public spirited individuals and stores often make donations by way of goods which are then used to supply food bank customers. We are also supported by sponsors who do what they can to ensure we are able to meet the needs of the area.

When you visit the YVC food bank you’ll almost certainly be served by a volunteer. You’ll asked you about the things you like and offered various items. What we have in stock changes often and our volunteers try to provide you with the best they can at the time of your visit.

Who can use the YVC food bank?

People referred to us by a statutory or other agency as well as individuals and families who are facing financial hardship and would otherwise struggle to obtain sufficient food.

We are friendly and welcoming and wish only to provide the best service to those that visit us.
