Manager – Ystradgynlais Volunteering Centre (YVC)

A vacancy exists within the YVC for a suitable qualified and experienced Manager to take ownership and responsibility for the effective running of our Volunteering Centre. The Centre is a vibrant and active resource for the local community in itself, whilst also supporting the charity’s objectives as a sustainable social enterprise in the repurposing of furniture and the ongoing development of volunteering and community activities that support both people’s wellbeing and our environmental objectives.

The person best suited for this important role will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the service, the premises and effective management of Health & Safety, Accessibility, Maintenance and all other areas of the Centre.

Specific requirements are as follows (not an exhaustive list!):

  • the effective management of a small team of motivated individuals and the setting of and monitoring of roles and functions;
  • the ongoing development of services, provision of general facilities management and central organisation, inclusive of IT, HR, Fundraising, Marketing and effective Communications of the charity:
  • maintain and develop robust Governance, Financial Accounting and Management/Statistical Information Systems;
  • build and work collaboratively with key partners (voluntary, community and private sector) to maximise opportunities for the advancement of the YVC;
  • the completion and reporting of monthly reports to the Board of Trustees on the activities of the charity.

The job-holder will be supported by a dedicated team of Trustees who will provide the necessary support and guidance to enable the maximising of opportunities for income generation by way of:

  • the repurposing and sale of furniture;
  • the development of other income streams through sales, grants, fees, charges, rental and fundraising
  • promoting the Centre’s facilities for a range of community uses;
  • ensuring any external use is in keeping with the ethos and policies of the Centre.

The continued success of the Centre will depend heavily on the effective input and involvement of the Job Holder; paramount to this is the need to engage and communicate effectively with all members of the Community and to work effectively alongside Colleagues, Partners and Trustees.

Skills and Requirements:

  • proven experience in the voluntary sector or community development, along with the ability to deliver results in a timely manner;
  • a professional attitude and approach to the Management of the Centre;
  • effective written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent customer service skills;
  • confidence, self-motivation, innovation and the ability to work under pressure as part of a team and on one’s own initiative;
  • good team leadership skills, with the ability to develop and support all members of the team, along with the ability to prioritise work-load demands;
  • good understanding of financial budgets;
  • oversee the Centre’s financial budgets and payroll with the support of the Treasurer and other Trustees;
  • the ability to work flexible hours when required;
  • a full driving license and access to a suitable vehicle;
  • the ability to speak Welsh is desirable.

Salary and other Benefits:

  • a starting wage of £11.00 per hour which will rise incrementally in accordance with the achievement of agreed and set targets;
  • a minimum of 25 hours per week;
  • a holiday entitlement in-line with the statutory entitlement;
  • a six-month probationary period will apply;
  • the manager will also be required to attend various and relevant training programmes in line with the needs of the role;
  • other opportunities will be offered in line with the ongoing development of the Centre.
